TLS/SSL certificate validity period shifts to one-year maximum
An industry-wide requirement set by Apple and Google, stating that any two-year SSL certificate issued after August 30, 2020, will be distrusted in their browsers.
Sectigo SSL (Former Comodo CA)
Starting Wednesday, August 19, 2020, Sectigo will no longer be able to offer two-year public TLS certificates due to an industry-wide requirement set by Apple and Google, stating that any two-year TLS certificate issued after August 30, 2020 will be distrusted in their browsers.
Any two-year TLS certificate issued before 12:00am UTC on August 19, 2020 will be valid for two-years (up to 825 days). Beginning August 19, 2020, Sectigo will only be issuing one-year (up to 398 days) TLS certificates.
This only applies to public TLS certificates. Private-root and other types of certificates (e.g. Code Signing Certificates, S/MIME certificates, etc.) will be unaffected and will have the same maximum validity that they have today.
Digicert SSL (including Rapid, Geotrust brand)
DigiCert® will offer 2-year certificates until August 27, 5:59 pm MDT (23:59 UTC) for organizations that are already validated(Including DV SSL), and until August 12, 5:59 pm MDT (23:59 UTC) for organizations that need to be validated.
Any 2-year certificates issued before September 1 will remain valid until expiration without any modification or replacement. However, as we are unable to reissue 2-year certificates after September 1, any reissues made after that date will be reduced to 1 year. You can, however, reissue at a later time to obtain any remaining validity.
What you should do?
We strongly recommend you renew the certificate and top your certificate validity before the deadline, save time, and trouble for you to go through the validation process next year (especially for OV&EV certificate). And for all the standard two-year order before August 19, we will give a good discount for two years SSL order to help you extend the validity, up to 80% off (Rapidssl wildcard, Quickssl premium wildcard do not include).
